Aquaculture & Urban Food Production

Urban Food Production provides applications of foundational agriscience knowledge and skills in the interdisciplinary study of aquaculture and crop production. Students will experience various plant and animal science concepts through exciting hands-on-activities, projects, and problems. Student experiences will include the study of plant production, soil and soilless crop production systems, fisheries management, vertical gardening, and hydroponic systems. Students will learn how to apply scientific knowledge and skills to use plants and fish effectively for urban food production. Students will work on major projects and problems similar to those that specialists, such as farm managers, aquaculturists, hydrologists, and plant research specialists face in their respective careers. Students will participate in service learning by producing food for local non-profits. Course fee.
